Russell Brand admits he âwas really into the idea of marriage and having childrenâ
I always get a kick out of Russell Brandâs self-constructed âuniforms.â As opposed to his yogi uniform, Russellâs wearing (in this photo) his usual deranged, ripped uniform that he wears everywhere else including to testify in front of Parliament. I have to say that I prefer this look, and even though he looks like he smells of patchouli and last nightâs sex, I still find him irresistable from a safe distance.
Now onto the subject of this story, for Russell has called into Howard Sternâs radio show to promote his new FX show, âBrand X.â Naturally, Howard steered the conversation elsewhere (primarily to the topic of Russellâs short-lived marriage to Katy Perry) as he is well known to do, and Russell answered as candidly as possible. The result? Finally, we have confirmation of how Russell really wanted to start having babies and his dismay that Katy didnât want to do the same. EW.com has an audio clip of the interview, and here are some excerpts:
Why he married & divorced Katy: âI loved her so much, it just seemed like the sensible thing to do [when we got married] ⦠I just loved her so much.â But once they were husband and wife, Brand admitted that he realized, âthis isnât really working out, itâs a difficult situation ⦠I was really, really in love with her, but it was difficult to see each other ⦠We were together when it was right to be together, and when it wasnât we worked it out ⦠It was a lovely relationship ⦠it mostly didnât work for practical reasons ⦠We did work it out, sheâs happy, Iâm happy. Sheâs young, successful and dedicated. [The reality is] you canât fully understand it until you do it. I was really into the idea of marriage and having children.â
Brand said heâs still dedicated to the idea of being a dad and revealed that he and Perry did discuss starting a family, but he declined to give any details about those talks. âI donât want anything to hurt her. Sheâs younger than me, sheâs a young woman and sheâs beautiful and sheâs sensitive and I care about her deeply ⦠I donât want to be too glib,â he said about fears that Perry would read second-hand tabloid accounts of his Stern interview that will twist his words around. âSheâll read it and sheâll be sad and I donât want that.â
On his newly-single shagathon: âIf youâve been on a diet of rice for a while and suddenly Willy Wonka asked you to take over the factory, youâd be kicking over barrels of candy and swimming in a chocolate river.â
Is he dating Isabella Brewster? âSome things in the newspaper arenât true ⦠thatâs true, actually,â he said, adding that he was enjoying the âfreedomâ of being single again and reaffirming his commitment to hedonism. Though he intimated that there was someone in the bed with him as he called in for the interview, Brand argued that whoever it was is a âreal personâ and he wasnât into dragging her into the tabloid muck.
Why he didnât want Katyâs money: âIâve got a good job. All I want to do I want to live a good life ⦠Iâm not into taking money from women.â
On Katyâs âWide Awakeâ song: When Stern began dissecting the lyrics, citing the lines âI was in the dark ⦠I was falling hard ⦠how did I read the stars so wrong,â Brand got audibly uncomfortable. âThat could be about anything ⦠horoscopes, astronomy,â Brand joked. Citing the lines, âNow itâs clear to me/ that everything you see/ ainât always what it seems,â Stern kept at it, suggesting that Perry was revealing her real feelings on the break. âYour interpretation sounds somewhat arbitrary,â Brand said. âSheâs a young woman dealing with the breakup of a relationship ⦠which is understandable. Itâs a nice song.â

You know what ultimately surprises me about this conversation? That Howard Stern was familiar with the lyrics to a Katy Perry song and had actually put some thought into the songâs faux-goth, gossip implications. Howard is supposed to be edgier than that!
In other Russell news, heâs finally making some light of his marital disaster. While filming his âBrand Xâ show, Russell engaged in some banter with audience members until he came across a woman also named Katy, to whom he responded, âAnyway, enough of you, Iâve had enough ar*e-ache from people called Katy in the last year.â Thatâs a pretty mild statement, actually. Most people say much worse things about their ex-spouse, and Russell probably just said that because he knew everyone would be expecting him to react in some way to the womanâs name.
Incidentally, this is how Russell now wears his hair while attending yoga class. It pains me to admit that the Croydon facelift look does absolutely nothing for him. Not hot.

Heâs been a lot more discreet and polite about the whole thing than she has. I donât have any problem with what he has said, but those clothes?! Um, wow.

If someone told me that Iâd be referring to Russell Brand as a âclass act,â Iâd laugh hysterically. However, thatâs exactly what heâs being. Very classy about the divorce. Good for him for taking the high road.

Iâm right there with ya. Funny men are SO sexy to me, and heâs handsome, too. I guess you could say Iâm into his cheekiness, and his cheekbones. Lol!
He probably thought that once Katy was done with her Spinning Peppermint Candies on Her Boobs Tour to support the Teenage Dream album, that theyâd start a family. And Katy, having the biggest success of her career so far, said something along the lines of waiting until after a few more albums and tours. And also, I do think the rumors are true about her âpartyingâ too much on the road, and Russell needing that element away from him. I wish Howard Stern had addressed that.
Btw, loving the idea that sex with Katy was like ârice,â and sex with other women is a chocolate factory.

This really makes me like Russell. Fashion and one night stands aside, it seems he was really into Katy. And the way he handled himself with Sternâ¦.very classy and respectable.

Whatever, dude. You knew what you were getting before you married her. Good sex? Yeah. Probably. Intellect & a mature, steady relationship? No.

God, Iâve never felt particularly upset by anything Katy P related. I think her music itâs fine enough (at least tolerable) and as far as her image goes, it just doesnât ruffle my feathers. But this thing with the divorce, men! up until now I just thought it was like any divorce and whatever, but sheâs just being cheap about it. Why couldnât she just handled it differently? When I heard this interview with Russel, the first thing that came to mind was âThis is the classier way to deal with this kind of stuffâ. Instead, she displays it on her budget movie and writes passive agressive songs about it. so disappointedâ¦

He handled that very well, in a respectable manner.
Notice how many times he referred to her as âyoungâ though?

He is ten years older than she is, isnât he? Maybe itâs a long ten years. Or maybe he thought she was more mature than she is.

I saw Katyâs documentary (it was actually very good) and she said right there on camera, that she isnât ready to be a mom yet, so thats not a big surprise to me.
