Eddie Redmayne to Star in Steven Spielberg's War Horse?
Early last month we learned that Steven Spielberg was gearing up to direct War Horse, a film based on the Michael Morpurgo novel of the same name. The movie will be a nice change of pace following his high tech production of The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, which he just wrapped with co-director Peter Jackson. According to The Playlist, Spielberg’s ready to delve into his new project and has already found his lead actor.
According to their sources, British actor Eddie Redmayne is Spielberg’s first choice to play Albert, a young man who forms a life long friendship with a horse named Joey. The story takes place during World War I and follows Albert on his journey to save Joey after he’s been picked up by the calvary and sent to the trenches of war.
Redmayne has previously appeared in Elizabeth: The Golden Age, The Other Boleyn Girl, and The Yellow Handkerchief. I don’t have a problem with his acting but his age might be an issue. He’s 28 years old and is supposed to play a boy who isn’t old enough to enlist in the army. Either Spielberg’s going to use the magic of makeup to give him some extra youth or he’s going to tweak that part of the story. He has a young looking face but not that young.
Do you think Redmayne would be the right choice for the role? Who should they cast in the part?
