âStar Trek 2â² Writer Leaks Villain Details
One of the more fervent movie geek debates throughout 2012 has been thisâ"will Chris Pine be screaming âKHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAANNNN!!!!!â in Star Trek 2, the sequel to 2009âs Star Trek reboot? At one point, it was all but confirmed that Khan would be the villain, and then Simon Pegg later denied it. Then, director J.J. Abrams dropped a preview of the Klingons in the upcoming film. So, who wants some more Star Trek 2 Big Bad details? Read on for more.
In a recent interview promoting his new film, People Like Us, Star Trek 2 writer Alex Kurtzman spoke about the villain portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch. Kurtzman was wildly effusive about Cumberbatchâs portrayal of the mysterious baddie:
âHeâs a geniusâ¦There are certain actors who have the ability to take a line of dialogue and add a ring to it that you didnât even know you put into the dialogue, into the line. And heâs one of those really brilliant actors. Just listening to him talkâ¦you could enjoy him reading the phone book.â
Moreover, Kurtzman described the role the villain will play in the upcoming film, and how the nature of the sequel defines the characterization and actions of the villain:
âSequels are about your bad guy. Because your first movie is always about the becoming of [the hero] and your bad guy has to test that hero in a very significant way. And heâs an incredibly formidable presence. Heâs amazing. Are you going to be scared of him? Shit yeah!â
So there you have it. Still not a confirmation or denial that Khan, Captain Kirkâs genetically engineered arch-nemesis, will be the Heavy in Star Trek 2. But still, as long as it isnât Eric Banaâs inexplicable villain from Star Trek (Spock tried to help save his planet but just wasnât fast enough, so Bana blows up Spockâs own entire homeworld?), whomever Cumberbatch is playing should be fine.
Khhhhaaaaaaannnnnnn?
