Joss Whedon Discusses Post-'Avengers' Chances Of More 'Firefly' Material
Hard to imagine these days, but there was a time in which Joss Whedon wasnât the most powerful people in Hollywoodâ"while he is now essentially the grand poobah of all storylines in Marvel Studios films, there was an era in which all but one (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) of Whedonâs television shows were cancelled before their respective times. This includes a little show called Firefly, which ran for one little-viewed season on Fox and received one excellent film, Serenity, before slipping into the ether. Ever since, fans have clamored for another film. So, is it happening?
In a recent interview with The Toronto Sun (via Cinema Blend), Whedon discussed Firefly, which mashed the Western and Science Fiction genres into dark and humorous blend, as well as the possibility of future films:
âWhen I made Serenity, I said hereâs one thing Iâll never do again â" a movie based on something that some people know about and some people donât, with tons of characters who all know each other and who you have to introduce. And then my second movie was The Avengers.â
Translation: Itâs probably not happening as, despite its small but devoted fanbase, most people have simply never heard of Firefly or Serenity. Itâs a drag, but at least fans received one near-perfect TV series and one excellent film before it was all over.
What do you think of the Firefly news?
